Nancy Cocks, President

Nancy, a native of Medicine Hat, is a retired Presbyterian minister with a lifelong commitment to social action wherever she has served in Canada and abroad. One of the co-founders of MHART, she joined the CARO Board in 2022 to support its outreach on behalf of children and their families with her experience in community organizing.

 

Robert (Bob) Wanner, Vice President

Bob and his wife Joan are long time residents of Medicine Hat. Bob is a former Executive Officer with the City of Medicine Hat, former local MLA, and retired Speaker of the Alberta Legislature. He was the founding President of CARO, taking a hiatus while serving in government, returning to the CARO Board in 2022.

 

Jeff Lackie, Secretary

Jeff, originally from Southern Ontario, is a Presbyterian minister serving St John’s Church in Medicine Hat. Involved in the work of refugee resettlement through MHART, he sees exciting opportunities in the partnership between CARO and MHART, to bring positive change in the lives of families and children, both locally and overseas.

 

Trevor Regehr, Treasurer

Trevor, a native of Medicine Hat, is an Accountant with the City of Medicine Hat. He has been involved with CARO since his father, Wally Regehr, along with Bob Wanner, started CARO as a registered charity back in 2004. He became a member of the Board in 2018.

 

Linda Chapman, Director

Linda is a retired accountant who worked in senior management at the City of Medicine Hat for many years.  She served as treasurer on the MHART Board. Now as a member of CARO, she continues to work for the wellbeing of children and families in need, and remains committed to the settlement of refugees and the reunification of families.

 

Brock Hale, Director

Brock was born and raised in Medicine Hat. After living in Romania for a couple of years, he came back to the city and got involved with CARO through its support for children in Romania. Brock teaches a variety of subjects at St Mary’s School, and along with his wife and young children, has been involved in several CARO projects and events. He has served on the Board for several years, including time as President.

 

Garrett Johnson, Director

Garrett is a Medicine Hat native who joined CARO in 2004 after living in Burkina Faso as part of a volunteer exchange. Garrett approached CARO to support the ASFOP orphanage in Burkina Faso and has since served as that project's coordinator for CARO. Garrett lives in Boston where he is a professor at Boston University.
